SUMMARY:Private Guided Hike at Cherokee Ranch
DESCRIPTION:We are incredibly excited to offer a private guided hike at the beautiful and historic Cherokee Ranch—an experience not typically open to the public and one you won’t want to miss! \nThis approximately 3-mile hike may be shorter in distance\, but it’s packed with adventure. The route includes some rigorous off-trail hiking\, giving us the rare opportunity to explore areas few get to see. Along the way\, we’ll visit the summit of Cherokee Mountain\, explore two archaeological sites\, and experience the fascinating 55-million-year-old petrified forest. \nBecause portions of the hike involve bushwhacking\, long pants are strongly recommended. \nThis is a private ranch\, and we are truly grateful to be welcomed onto this special land. Come help us honor this unique opportunity. \nAbout Cherokee Ranch\nLocated in Sedalia\, in the heart of Douglas County\, Cherokee Ranch has served as a community cultural resource since 1996. The property is home to Cherokee Castle\, a rare 15th-century-style Scottish castle built over 100 years ago\, housing an impressive collection of art\, antiques\, and rare books. The ranch also reflects Colorado’s rich western heritage and continues to operate as headquarters for the Santa Gertrudis cattle breed\, introduced here in 1954 by Mildred “Tweet” Kimball. Today\, Cherokee Ranch hosts a variety of cultural\, scientific\, and community events. \nTrail Details: \n\nDifficulty: Moderate to challenging (due to off-trail travel) to \nDistance: ~3 miles\nTerrain: Uneven\, off-trail\, with some bushwhacking\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nLong pants (highly recommended)\nSturdy hiking shoes\nWater and snacks\nSun protection\n\nThis is a rare chance to step into a place rich with history\, nature\, and hidden stories—all while sharing the experience with an amazing group of women. \nWAC Trail Guides: Robin Lythgoe and Kelly Phillips

It’s a beautiful spot to pause\, take photos\, and enjoy the fresh mountain air. For those who want a little more adventure\, there is an option to continue beyond the glacier and explore higher terrain—we’ll decide as a group how far we want to go. \nBecause this hike sits at over 10\,000 feet in elevation\, expect thinner air and changing mountain conditions. Take your time\, breathe deeply\, and enjoy the journey. \nTrail Details: \n\nDistance: 1.7 miles (round trip to the glacier)\nElevation Gain: 500+ feet\nDifficulty: Moderate\nTerrain: Rocky\, steep in sections\, and often snowy or icy\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nMicrospikes or snowshoes depending on conditions\nTrekking poles\nWarm layers\nWater and snacks\nSunglasses and sun protection\n\nMeetup and Parking:\nWe will meet as a group at the trailhead (not in the parking lots).
