DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a 4.3-mile adventure through the stunning Castlewood Canyon State Park\, located near Franktown\, Colorado! This moderately challenging loop trail takes you through scenic landscapes\, from creek-side views and a charming waterfall to sweeping vistas above the canyon. With an average completion time of 1 hour and 52 minutes\, this hike is perfect for those looking to connect with nature while getting a good workout. \nThe first half of the trail follows a creek\, where you’ll enjoy peaceful moments by the water and admire the small waterfall along the way. As you continue\, the trail ascends above the canyon\, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Be prepared for elevation changes and rocky sections with steps—sturdy hiking boots are a must! For those wanting to carpool\, we will meet at the Stroh Ranch Soccer Fields with a departure time of 8:40am. \nImportant Reminder: As this is a popular spot for birding\, hiking\, and running\, you’ll likely share the path with other outdoor enthusiasts. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash. SUMMARY:Manitou Incline
DESCRIPTION:Snow or sun\, we are making the climb as long as the roads are good! The key to success for this intense stair climb is to hydrate well the week of this event as well as packing a LOT of water to use on the trail. It is one mile of stairs up the mountain\, followed by 3 miles of switch-backs back down. This event is not recommended if you have a heart condition\, knee pain\, or have not be consistently exercising as this is an advanced level workout. We will stop for lunch afterwards at the Sherpa Garden. RSVPs are no longer required to climb the incline. Please meet at the Stroh Ranch Soccer Park to carpool. Departure at 7:50am.

DESCRIPTION:Designed for year-round family-friendly enjoyment\, Centennial Center Park includes hours of fun for children of all ages. Enjoy one of three climbing walls\, two expansive\, age-appropriate play areas\, and the Nautilus water play area in the center of the park. \nCentennial Center Park is equipped with everything for your family or company outing. The outdoor amphitheater features a covered stage and is the ideal spot for concerts\, events\, and meetings with a capacity of approximately 5\,000. The Park features restrooms\, picnic tables\, six barbeque grills\, convenient trash receptacles\, parking\, and bike racks. \nThis park is not just a place to play\, but also a place to learn. The “Colorado Statehood Walk” displays interesting facts about Colorado\, while the “Viewfinder Walk” is an interactive trivia challenge that takes visitors on a quest throughout the Park– highlighting unique points of interest both inside and outside of the Park. \nAs always\, we will walk around the park for our exercise before doing our play date at the playground.

DESCRIPTION:This trail is a great example of the ecology and geography of the Castle Rock area. It offers much of the same experience as the nearby Castlewood canyon without the crowds. DESCRIPTION:Castle Rock\, Colorado has a beautiful new park located on the eastern edge. Cobblestone Ranch Park is filled with two playgrounds featuring rope ladders\, rope bridges\, tightropes\, rock climbing walls\, and slides. Also included is a pump track with ramps perfect for bikes\, scooters and skateboards\, a basketball half-court\, and six pickleball courts. The 12-acre-park has something for all ages to enjoy and is ADA and stroller-friendly. After our stroller walk we will stop for snacks and play at the park.

SUMMARY:Metzler Family Open Space Hike/Run
DESCRIPTION:With gorgeous sweeping views\, plentiful wildlife and beautiful wildflowers and vegetation\, the land along Founders Parkway and Crowfoot Valley Road is truly a treasure. The Metzler family is credited as an original settler in the Castle Rock area. Originally built in 1899\, the homestead was the home of Bob and Rosemary Metzler. The siblings grew up on the property when it was still being used for ranching and dairy operations. Both Bob and Rosemary had distinguished careers in education. Bob was elected the Superintendent of Douglas County Schools in 1952\, and Rosemary taught in Douglas County for more than 30 years. The siblings were third-generation Coloradans who had a passion for education\, the community\, and parks and recreation. Castle Rock developed 4 miles of native-surface\, single-track trails throughout the property and straightened the silo\, as its preservation was requested by Mr. Metzler. The trails are now open for hikers\, mountain bikers and walkers with dogs on leash.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a 2 hour Round Robin of Pickleball!  You’ll partner with and play against a variety of WAC members of similar ability.  Games are timed\, with both a partner and opponent switch at the sound of the buzzer. If this is your first time playing\, WELCOME! There are plenty of beginner players and we are happy to teach you how to play. Bring your own paddles. WAC will provide the balls. Because this is a round robin\, it is REALLY important that you attend when you sign up\, as any no-shows disturb the entire tournament flow. If you register and are unable to come\, you are responsible for finding your own replacement. Our last pickleball event was a huge success – we can’t wait to host this again!

SUMMARY:Elephant Butte Hike/Run/Mtn Bike
DESCRIPTION:Hikers describe Elephant Butte in Evergreen\, Colorado as a great and moderate trail with beautiful views at the summit. Recent reviews indicate good conditions\, with some trails getting rocky near the top. It can be a challenging workout with some uphill climbs. Trail is well-maintained\, can be less crowded\, and offers vantage points and 360-degree views. Typical conditions in July include potential crowds\, some trail confusion near the peak\, and a variety of wildlife sightings\, such as mountain lions and bobcats. \nWe are also opening this trail up for WAC mountain bikers to join our club’s hikers and trail runners! Kaylene Macias will be leading the mountain bikers on the trial. Be prepared for a sore booty and lots of hills! We will leave from Sportsman’s Warehouse in Parker at 7:00am for our carpool to three sisters.

SUMMARY:Paint Mines Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Paint Mines trail takes hikers on an easy 3.7 mile loop through a badlands landscape of rainbow sandstone and hoodoo rock formations. We will take this loop trail clockwise for the best views. The Paint Mines were given their name because Native Americans used the crushed and colored sandstone to make paint and mined the soils to craft ceramic potter. Later\, settlers mined the same area to make bricks. The swathes of color are made up of iron compounds that oxidize when the rock is exposed to air. Gypsum and Quartzite bring the white colors and sparkles to the rock. It’s all clay\, dense sandstone color\, and the erosion from many years of water of wind has carved out some spectacular hoodoos (those columns of weird looking rock that stand out) and gullies that look like something from the surface of Mars. Carpool meetup at Stroh Ranch Soccer Park with a departure time of 6:50am. It is a 70 minute drive to the trailhead but I promise it is worth it!

Your registration also covers transportation\, gas\, and lunch. Join us and check off this epic trip from your bucket list! Fun fact: Mt Sherman is the only fourteener that has had a successful aircraft landing on its summit. We do not recommend this activity if you have not been consistently hiking or otherwise exercising. Meet at 2:45am at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Parker. We leave promptly at 3:00am.
