Coach Women to Conquer the Manitou Incline!
At the Women’s Adventure Club, coaching on the Manitou Incline isn’t just about guiding participants up a steep set of stairs; it’s about unlocking the potential within each climber. As a coach, you’ll have the unique opportunity to inspire women to push their physical and mental limits while conquering one of Colorado’s most iconic challenges. By leading your team through the ascent, you’ll help them build strength, endurance, and resilience—qualities that extend beyond the mountain.
We Seek Coaches Who:
- Are Experienced Climbers: You have a solid background in climbing and a familiarity with the Manitou Incline or similar steep ascents. Certifications in strength training, personal training , Relevant certifications in climbing or outdoor education are a plus.
- Have or are process of obtaining Certification: Obtain strength training certification within three months of application acceptance.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) – National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
- Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) – NASM, ACE, NSCA, or ISSA
- Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) – Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning
- USA Weightlifting (USAW) Certification – USA Weightlifting
- Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) – American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
- CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (CF-L1) – CrossFit Be a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
- Possess Strong Leadership Skills: You can inspire and motivate participants of all skill levels, offering clear guidance and encouragement while fostering a positive, inclusive atmosphere.
- Embrace the Outdoors: You have a genuine love for outdoor activities and are excited to share that passion with others. Your enthusiasm will help participants appreciate the beauty and challenge of the Incline.
- Value Community: You believe in the power of connection and are committed to creating a welcoming environment where every participant feels valued and included.
- Prioritize Safety: You are dedicated to maintaining the highest safety standards while climbing. You’re knowledgeable about risk management and can effectively communicate safety protocols to participants.
- Encourage Growth and Resilience: You are committed to helping women develop not just their climbing skills but also their confidence and resilience. You can adapt your coaching style to meet the needs of beginners and experienced climbers alike.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Climbing Sessions: Guide participants up local inclines and strength exercises – providing instruction on climbing techniques, pacing, and safety practices.
- Educate on Gear and Preparation: Teach participants about essential climbing gear, including how to select and use it properly. Provide information on trail etiquette, preparation strategies, hydration, and refueling during climbs.
- Program Development: Develop 10 week training plans with your coaching team that can serve seasoned athletes and beginner climbers alike.
- Coach 5-6 women in your group each week.
- First Aid: Maintain up-to-date certifications in First Aid and CPR to respond effectively in emergencies.
- Foster Community: Cultivate a supportive environment where participants feel comfortable sharing their experiences, challenges, and successes. Encourage camaraderie and teamwork among climbers.
- Plan Graduation Ascent: The last week of training is a graduation ascent up Manitou Incline followed by a team luncheon. Coaches plan and carry out event coordinating and carpooling.
- Commitment: This is a compensated position, and coaches are expected to be present for the full extent of the course. Classes are held every Sunday morning and will also be part of our coaching community with coaches workshops throughout the year.
