TRAIL GUIDE VOLUNTEERS

Lead with Heart, Inspire Community, and Embrace the Adventure!

WAC Trail Guides are key to our mission. They lead with kindness, inspiring women of all abilities to socialize, exercise, and explore the outdoors safely. If you love nature and supporting others, this role lets you build community and help women feel confident on every adventure.

Our Trail Guide volunteers lead free Saturday Adventurers and Wednesday Warriors outings year-round, meeting at 8:00am in spring/summer and 9:00am in fall/winter. Guides lead hikes, paddle boarding, snowshoeing, road and mountain biking, and trail running — all at a casual, welcoming pace. Events last 1–4 hours depending on activity and location. At each event, one guide leads upfront while another stays at the back to keep everyone safe and accounted for. Trail Guides also help plan future adventures to keep our community engaged and growing.

Requirements

  • Be experienced on the trails and activities you lead. Whether it’s hiking, biking, or paddling, you feel comfortable navigating varied terrain and conditions.
  • Have already been on the route before leading an event. You must download the map using AllTrails and actively use it throughout the excursion — getting lost is not an option. Safety is our top priority, so open communication between the lead guide and caboose volunteer is essential at all times. We expect every Trail Guide to know their route thoroughly and lead with confidence and independence.
  • Lead at least one event every six weeks. Consistency helps our community thrive.
  • Bring a positive, supportive attitude. You encourage all participants, keep the energy fun and inclusive, and stay engaged with the group throughout the adventure.
  • Prioritize safety. Carry the WAC first aid kit, attend planning meetings, wear your Trail Guide nametag, and help ensure everyone enjoys the outing safely.
  • Arrive prepared and on time to every event. Being punctual and ready helps create a smooth, enjoyable experience for everyone.
  • Contribute to planning future events. Your insights and leadership help our community grow stronger.
  • Understand that pace is casual and welcoming. We need guides at both the front and back of the group — your leadership and care matter more than speed.

Trail Guide Responsibilities

  • Promote your event on Facebook the week you lead. Share a warm, welcoming post in our group with the RSVP link to encourage members to join you.

  • Post event photos afterward. Snap photos along the way — then share the highlights on our Facebook page to inspire and celebrate community.

  • Lead introductions at the start of each event. Start with a get-to-know-you question and guide the group in practicing everyone’s names. It’s as simple as taking turns saying each person’s name out loud. This small moment helps every woman feel seen, included, and known.

  • Create a welcoming environment. Encourage connection throughout the event. Take time to engage with each participant and help others do the same.

Liz Konley

Liz is a Colorado native who has always felt most at home outdoors. As an adult, she began sharing her favorite adventures with friends, hoping they would discover the same joy, confidence, and renewal she finds in nature.  As WAC’s Event Director, she channels that passion into creating opportunities for women to connect, challenge themselves, and find renewal in the outdoors.

Gayle Hoffmeister

Gayle Hoffmeister is a lifelong distance runner, having run her first marathon at age 12 and continuing her passion today as she nears her seventh year as a streak runner…having run at least a mile every day for the last 8 years.

An army veteran and consummate adventure seeker, Gayle is always chasing the next challenge. She’s completed marathons, Ironman’s, and adventure races around the world, summited Denali, and Kilimanjaro, climbed in the Andes, circumnavigated Mt Rainier, traversed the Grand Canyon from rim to rim to rim and raced fat bikes in the Arctic.

Her latest challenge is finishing the Marathon Global Majors, a series of 6 marathons around the world. Driven by a deep passion for sport and adventure, Gayle is committed to inspiring women and sharing her knowledge and experience to empower women of all ages and abilities.

Anne Sevilla

Anne Sevilla is a founding member of the Women’s Adventure Club and the driving force behind its training programs. As Training Program Director, she brings the vision to life—designing and managing programs that create meaningful opportunities for women to connect, train, and explore Colorado together. From shaping the structure alongside the original concept to leading coaches and participants today, Anne ensures every program delivers a strong, supportive, and empowering experience.

As a certified run coach through the United Endurance Sports Coaching Academy (UESCA), Anne believes there’s a place for every woman on the trail—regardless of pace or experience. Her coaching centers on building confidence, fostering connection, and making the outdoors accessible and rewarding for all. Whether someone is training for their first or fiftieth mile, Anne is committed to helping every woman get outside and move for their mental health.

At the core of Anne’s work is a simple belief: the benefits of outdoor movement belong to every woman. She designs programs that remove barriers and create a supportive path for women to grow stronger, build connection, and experience the outdoors with confidence.
